Mont St. Michel

We caught the bus to Mont St. Michel across the street from our hotel on Thursday morning.  Oddly, every person on the bus but us us was Asian – and they were not all together as a tour group.  We figured there must be some half price for Asians day at Mont St. Michel that we were unaware of, particularly since when we got there we noticed that almost everyone there was also Asian.  One of the great unsolved mysteries of the trip (along with the concert in the bar car of the train).

It was a really cold, but beautiful day and Mont St. Michel truly was amazing.  We were so lucky to be there on the off season.  At times we had entire rooms of the abbey all to ourselves.  Apparently in the summer it is wall to wall people, which would definitely take away from the experience.  We were there for about 3 hours, which was the perfect amount of time to see the abbey and the town (which is little more than one street packed with souvenir shops and restaurants).  Every time we turned around there was another beautiful picture begging to be taken.  It was a great day.

We had quite a bit of time in Rennes before our train left for Paris, so we settled in for a nice long stay at a café for pizza and some large beers.

Everything in this town is named after La Mere Poulard, including tins and tins of cookies.  We never did figure out who the hell she is.

The town is filled with creepy religious souvenirs
