Due undoubtedly entirely to my impeccable planning, we arrived in Paris exactly on time at 8:00 am on Friday, picked up our luggage and were immediately met by our waiting shuttle driver. Pascal, our landlord, (see pictures at http://your-vacation-rental-by-owner-in-paris.com/elegances-marais-apartment-le-marais-75004/) was waiting for us at the apartment when we arrived to take us out to coffee and show us the ropes in the apartment. Pascal is a bit of a talker, so it was a couple of hours before we bid him adieu.
In a vain effort to stave off jet lag we immediately set out for Monoprix to stock up on essentials (wine, cheese, butter and cookies) and check out the neighborhood. Despite a valiant try, we were asleep by 6:00 pm.
On Saturday we headed toward the Ile St Louis, Notre Dame and the left bank. The weather was overcast, but much warmer than we expected. I'm afraid we packed for temperatures in the 30s, and we're getting the 40s and 50s. After a nap, we took an evening walk in the rain back to the left bank to check out the Christmas lights before they disappear.
On Sunday the sun finally came out, so we headed out to the Bastille outdoor market to buy paella for dinner, and then walked along the Seine past the Louvre and the Musee D'Orsay, turning in at the Grand Palais and taking a detour to the Place Vendome to mix with the upper crust at Chanel and the Ritz before heading down the Rue de Rivoli towards home. The day has ended with some wine, paella, and BBC news.
Tomorrow we plan to do more walking, and are looking forward to our wine tasting class in the evening.
